Founding Story

Beyond Barre Fitness was born from a vision: a Pilates space in Downtown Kansas City where everyone feels welcomed, seen, and supported. As Kansas City's first Black-owned Pilates and Barre studio, BBF grew from pop-up classes into a community-first studio built on representation, accessibility, and movement that empowers.

Our Vision

To redefine what a Pilates studio looks like in Kansas City—an inclusive, community-driven home where every body is welcome, every level is supported, and movement becomes a path to lasting strength, confidence, and connection.

Our Mission

To build an inclusive, community-driven Pilates space in Kansas City where movement feels accessible, empowering, and intentional. We help clients grow strength, confidence, and consistency—supported every step, on and off the reformer.

Meet Our Founder

Shania

Founder & Lead Instructor

Hi, I'm Shania—founder of Beyond Barre Fitness and creator of Kansas City's first Black-owned Pilates and Barre studio. I grew up as a gymnast and dancer, so movement has always been part of my story. After earning my BBA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), I went to my first group fitness class and fell in love with the community, the energy, and the way movement made me feel.

That feeling is what I wanted to build for Downtown Kansas City. BBF started as pop-up classes around the city—rooftops, parks, community spaces—and grew into a studio at 110 W 9th St because clients kept asking for a home base. Every class I teach is built on form, breath, and music that pushes without overwhelming you.

My promise: walk in a beginner, walk out a regular. Whether you're trying reformer Pilates for the first time or deepening your practice with a private session, you'll get clear cues, real corrections, and a space where every body belongs.
